1. Determine the source of your lack of motivation
Often your lack of motivation is the consequence of a generalized discontent that halts the eagerness to perform a task that seems senseless. An unmotivated person will try to find many different ways to avoid their tasks as much as possible by trying to do something more pleasant.
Such lack of motivation may stem from:
- A delicate personal situation (divorce, separation, a sick relative, etc.)
- A lack of hierarchy recognition
- Repetitive and unrewarding tasks
- Poor management
- A generally distressful situation (strikes, political events, climate events, terrorism, etc.)
- A negative work environment
- An overwhelming fatigue
- A substantial amount of stress (such as too many responsibilities)
Identifying the cause for your lack of motivation allows you to better find adapted solutions.
2. Work on your personal development
Once the cause is identified, you can work on your personal development, meaning that you focus on yourself in order to find the inner strength to continue despite the external influences. This means, for example, practising sports, yoga or even working on your self-esteem.
Determine what makes you happy, what your priorities are and move towards the things that are indispensable to your well-being.
3. Value your work
It is possible that your work is not rewarding. In this case, you can try to find the positive side of each task. Some tasks may be motivated by a salary, others by a warm relationship with your colleagues. What are the positive aspects of your job? Can’t you find any? You may try reflecting on what could be improved in your daily tasks: how could you make them more amusing, more fulfilling?
If you can’t find any because your work doesn’t motivate you at all, you may want to consider a higher position and/or a career change.
4. Enjoy your free time
Detaching yourself from what troubles you could be a good way of rediscovering your motivation. In fact, if you remain veiled by your demotivation you will have fewer opportunities to cheer up. In this context, actively enjoying your free time allows you to relieve stress as well as the weight of your fatigue. This way you can realize that your work is not at the center of your life. Family, friends, leisure and your passions should occupy a prominent place in your life. The less you focus on this job and on the problems related to it, the more you will value your daily routine as a whole.
5. Practice mindfulness
