I’m not going to lie, this was a tough one for me. I’m not sure if it’s because I took some time off at the end of August or if this is a particularly busy season, but I felt the wave of September stress hit me pretty hard and fast. There’s been a major uptick in activity at Mindspace and lots of clients are reaching out for support. Not to mention my own family’s adjustment to the fall schedule. My challenge is to stay open and present with all of that, without burning myself out.
I’ve found it incredibly helpful to remember that this is a moment of transition—and therefore an impermanent state. I have been getting stuck in the narrative that this is the new normal and I have to suck it up. The fact is that the fall routines will take shape as September progresses and we will all feel a little more settled. Seasonal transitions also offer an excellent opportunity to take stock of our lives and establish new priorities and directions for the next sprint. To reinvent yourself, if you will. So there’s an upside to impermanence.
