Mindful Self-Compassion is an 8-week mindfulness program based on the innovative research findings and clinical expertise of self-compassion experts Kristin Neff and Christopher Germer. MSC participants will learn the essential principles of self-compassion, with practices designed to help you meet difficult periods in your life with wise attention, understanding, and lovingkindness. The MSC program involves an orientation session, eight weekly 2-hour-and-45-minute sessions, as well as a 4-hour meditation retreat on the weekend between the fifth and sixth sessions.

MSC participants are asked to commit to a) attending all ten sessions and b) practicing self-compassion meditation for at least 30 minutes per day for the duration of the program.

MSC is a self-compassion training program and not a form of psychotherapy. No prior experience with mindfulness or meditation is necessary. However, MSC may be considered a logical next step after participation in an introductory program such as Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction

Difficult or painful emotions may arise during self-compassion practice. Your MSC instructor is committed to providing a supportive environment in which every participant’s self-compassion journey can unfold safely.

What to expect when signing-up:
When you click register you’ll be taken to our Mindbody Online site where you’ll be asked to create an account (if you don’t already have one), provide some basic information, and pay a 20% deposit to secure your spot. Once you’ve completed that process you will receive a confirmation email with a link to a questionnaire to help us ensure you’re a good fit for the program. After reviewing your information, the course facilitator will get in touch to confirm your attendance at the orientation session.

Rami Nijjar

Rami Nijjar is a trained Mindful Self-Compassion teacher and has been leading MSC and other mindfulness-based groups across North America for over 7 years now.  Rami was introduced to loving kindness meditation (one of the core practices of MSC) in her late teens and found it transformational.  She loves teaching MSC as she sees how much it helps others deepen their relationship with themselves and provides them effective tools to cope with life challenges. Rami is also passionate about making MSC safer for survivors of trauma, childhood abuse, and marginalization.  She believes that mindfulness and self compassion can help us achieve a greater sense of safety with ourselves and others in uncertain times.

  • Why do I have to attend an orientation session prior to starting the group?

    Mindspace wants to make sure that each participant has a good experience in the MBSR, MBCT or MSC program. The orientation session provides a chance for you to see for yourself what the program is about, so that you can make an informed decision. Likewise, if the instructor determines that MBSR, MBCT or MSC may not be the right fit at the right time for you, we’ll make sure to orient you toward the best alternative.
