Mindfulness Based Childbirth & Parenting (MBCP) was founded by midwife and mindfulness teacher Nancy Bardacke in 1998 and is an evidence-based adaptation of the well-researched Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program (MBSR) created by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D. in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.

During the nine-week MBCP course, you will learn to:

  • Access deep physical and mental relaxation
  • Engage the mind to work with pain during labor
  • Increase confidence and courage for the experience of labor and delivery
  • Practice prenatal yoga for strength and flexibility
  • Develop skills for managing stress in pregnancy, parenting and daily life
  • Enhance partner communication skills
  • Become more aware of our own approach to parenting

Cost: $600+ tax

The program includes:

  • Participation for the expectant mother and one support partner
  • A full day retreat on Sunday, November 10th from 2:30pm-8:30pm
  • A copy of Mindful Birthing: Training the Mind, Body, and Heart for Childbirth and Beyond by Nancy Bardacke
  • A reunion session to be planned following the births of the full group

Grace Burson

Grace Pritchard Burson, CD (DONA), holds degrees from Williams College and Yale University.  She has been a birth and postpartum doula since 2014, and began working with birthing families and mindfulness in 2016.  She believes that the power of the mindfulness model as applied to pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting is only beginning to be tapped, and that the great strength of mindfulness practice is in its ability to hold whatever experience the birth process brings.
